A wholly owned subsidiary of MBf Holdings Berhad, MBF Cards (M'sia) Sdn Bhd is a leading credit and charge card company in Malaysia.
It has become one of the largest issuers of MasterCard credit cards in Malaysia since 1987.
MBF Cards is also the first mono-line and non-bank to be awarded with a VISA licence in Malaysia and the Asean region.
The country's largest issuer of niche cards and ranks number six in terms of cards issued in Malaysia, MBF Cards has more than 500,000 cards in circulation with the most number of merchant outlets at over 23,000.
To support the business, MBF Cards has over 750 staff and a nationwide network of 26 branches inclusive of Sabah and Sarawak.
MBF Cards also owns the franchise for the Countdown International brand in the Asia Pacific region. The Countdown is a privilege discount card that is accepted by over 5,000 merchants in Malaysia and over 80,000 merchants worldwide.
MBF Cards rolled out the first Visa "contactless" card in the world on April 27 2004, which allows card users to pay for purchases without the need for traditional "swipe and sign" but to just wave, pay and go. The wave function does not require any signature.
It is one of the first to introduce EMV chip cards. EMV refers to the specifications issued by a joint venture between Europay International, MasterCard International and Visa International, covering the operation of Smart card payments. It is a fully functional chip securely embedded with Cardmember's personal information.
Keeping to its corporate philosophy of "Enriching Our CardMember's Lives Through Practical Innovations" MBF Cards (M'sia) Sdn. Bhd. is the first in the world to launch the MBF 2006 FIFA World CupT OneSMARTT MasterCard PayPass T Card on 14th February 2006. This allows CardMembers to pay for purchases without the need to traditional "swipe and sign" but to tap and go. The Pay Pass T function does not not require any signature.
